First, welcome to the club.

As to exactly what sensors are read, I haven't got a clue- but the speedometer gets its info from something. I don't know the ScanGauge itself, but I know the UltraGauge needs to be calibrated, so mileage readings are adjustable. Some folks base their calibrations off GPS, I do it against the odometer at fill up time. That makes for much longer fill ups until you're happy with the settings because you have to fiddle with numbers before you leave the pump.

But the instant feedback is priceless, well worth any hassle at the pump.
