This tells me you've never put many miles on an old Beetle. If the cable end doesn't fall out of the foot pedal, it wears on the end of the tube and frays.

I drive a '59 Rambler in college for two years. the only problem it had was the bellcrank in the throttle linkage broke off the side of the block.

Every Prius is drive-by-wire. I will probably use their part in an EV conversion.
