The xj40 was only ever available with the straight 6 pr the v12-the v8 (and its myriad issues with timing chains) first came in the x308 in the late 90s.
Its a lovely big thing and was averaging
26 uk mpg (21.6us) on the drive home. I think thats fairly good for a 4.0 auto 1800kg
(3970lb) car..
