A gen 1 insight can be a fustercluck of a project. They usually suffer from several problems, bad ima battery, bad or missing grounds, leaking exhaust, bad cat, bad o2 sensor, clogged vtec filter, 2,3 sychros need replacing, ISB needs replacing, etc.
You can bypass the ima battery, try balancing it or replace it for 2 grand with a new one. The rest of the stuff Im sure you have done already. Sometimes the IMA errors are from a rat snacking on the wires inside the battery unit.
