Yes, it's stand alone. It reads feedback from various things, and decides if there is a problem, and takes action if there is. It tells the world about its problems through rs-232 serial.
Transformer oil sounds great! I'll see about getting my grubby hands on some. By the way, the new controller isn't going to be made next week or anything. I just figured I wanted to try adding a boost stage later, and I had started to work on the board.
