Yes. It's a rough guess, since I didn't keep track of varying fuel prices over the years, but I think my Insight paid off its $8500 used price a couple of years ago, comparing to a 35 mpg alternative.
The sad thing here (IMHO, anyway) is that if he'd just biked "across town" to work most days, he'd have saved a lot more money, and lprobably have been in a lot better health too.
