I considered this before mounting an interior mirror on the A-pillar trim. On my car, and I suspect most with side curtain airbags, the panel simply pops on and has no seams where the airbag sits; in other words, it looks like the force of the airbag simply pops the panel off and out of the way (down and toward the dash in my car) as the airbag inflates.
