lol.... TDIs are very popular where i grew up (NH) and nobody I knew had any issues. And as far as sludge I think it depends on how you treat it. But at the end of the day Id say the TDI engine in older jettas and golfs are some of the most reliable engines on the road. And the old N/As are THE most reliable with many going over 400k.

Id pick a diesel over a gas engine any day for reliability. I wouldnt however pick a newer diesel because of stupid emissions equipment.

And gas prices wont stay where they are. The US production will start to slow then decline and prices will go up again.
