The VIN will tell you if the car is a VX but the stamp on the engine will tell you if it is a VX engine or not. Should be a D15Z1 engine in that car. The stamp will be on the front of the block near the transmission. There are other things to look for too. I ended up getting burned on this by a dealer no less. Swore up and down it was original but the hood cable was broken so no way to check. Turns out the guy lied through his teeth and then I find out that in The great state of Illinois, I can't go after the dealer for misrepresenting the car. I'm still pissed to this day but I'm taking the car back to original VX status day by day.
