Well I had a failed VVTi oil control valve. In the course of trying to fix the problem, I ran some motor flush and slapped in the 0-w30 Mobil1 I got on a great deal. The flush failed to do anything, but the perfect weather, new oil, and new part is allowing the 50+ mpg segments to flow like beer at Oktoberfest. I guess that OCV had slowly been dying because it has been a long time since I have gotten those kinds of numbers, especially since my technique got sloppy while the Echo was out of commission.
