If your starter and glow plugs are good a pair of 1200cc batteries will start it right up in -40 F weather without an issue.

My 6.2 was the only vehicle that could start at college when it was -41F outside, I jumped at least 5 people that day.

Key is, if it can crank long enough it will eventually start but you wear out starters fast.
