BTW I pay about $1.80/gallon in New Mexico. The indian reservations around here don't charge tax.

I used a strong word because it appropriately conveys my belief that gas will go over $3/gallon. Heck, it's up almost a dollar since a month ago, sitting at about $2.75 in the Portland area. We're just 1 quarter away from hitting the mark you said we wouldn't see, and it's not even summer yet. We will exceed $3 before summer is out.
Most people aren't buying EVs even though they are appropriate in many cases. That's because most people don't know what we know. Also, electricity is more expensive in some places than burning fuel. CA seems to be one of those places where it's cheaper to buy gas than to use electrons.
Also, most people don't do any math when it comes to making decisions that affect their financial position. They simply allow their emotion to be the driving force for their purchases. Advertising is evidence that humans are very easily manipulated by emotion. If we were rational, advertising wouldn't exist.
