Great job! I wish I had 5% of your fabrication skills.
Someone else on another forum posted a similar compliment about this build, so here's the reply I posted to that:
Such a compliment makes me feel like a hack. I get nervous before trying something new, I'm worried as I try my idea, I do too many hours of online research, then whatever it is I'm trying is nearly done.
And the number of interesting cars I've ruined along the way is shameful. A few Mustangs, a few Camaros, some rice, even a Fiero, and now I'm in my late 30s just getting comfortable with going way beyond bolt-ons.
Adapting a Nissan FS5W71C to a SBC, I could make and sell good-enough copies if there was any demand, but if someone asked me to make and ship a kit to bolt an L36 into an FB with an FC crossmember, I couldn't do it.
Don't regret your high praise, just realize it's trial and error by a guy with no disposable income and a willingness to destroy salvage-yard scores as the cost of my own learning. Now that I can sort of weld, most any mistake in metal can be undone or replaced. And all this stuff I'm trying on this RX-7, I would never seriously think to try on a genuine Ferrari, though butchering a Porsche wouldn't even make me hesitate.
Much of what it may seem I've finished with on this RX-7 will be revisited before this July. I just planned the work, revised the plan, and began going as seems necessary.
I post all I do in hopes of eventually getting others to pay me to do stuff to their cars, for pay, but it really helps to know that guys are following my thread. I guess I need to leave more positive comments in all the other threads I follow.
Thanks.
