Am I to understand that the flow is from the input side of the imploturbocompressor to the output side through the clearance around the shaft? How is the curvature of the vanes in one side or the other not backward to the flow?
While you make comparisons to the hurricane and Hero's steam turbine, those are both shaftless. Could you compare and contrast with

Nikola Tesla's Disk turbine?
