Apparently fighter planes can be fitted with "shark skin style" textured finish, and textured finishes are banned in most forms of racing! Although much of that has to do with roger Penske acid dipping an entire camaro chassis in 1967 to shave 400 lbs off of the car. The metal was so thin that it caused "dimples" in the camaros surface and not knowing it was just super thin metal the racing community thought the dimples gave him an unfair advantage
