Mine has 2.88 gears from the 1985 300D.
The people I know who converted to the Benz 4 speed manual were very happy with the swap. Just have to figure out how to balance and index the 240D flywheel properly - not hard, but you have to match the balance of the original flywheel that attached to the automatic.
