A lot of little holes create more turbulence than one big hole?
I'm reading between the lines here; a 34PICT with a[n exhaust] heated air cleaner? Is that 1302 in your avatar pic the vehicle in question? What color is it? Whose programmable ignition?

They reported a 10% improvement in mileage, testing revealed a performance hit they couldn't feel by seat-of-the-pants.
Edit: On a highly tuned dual port 1776 with dual carbs and a Freeway Flyer transaxle. They took it from 28 to 38mpg.
