Pool help. A lot.
The tank was down to 56.4 when I got home but on the way to the pool I got 82.1, bringing the tank average up to 57.8. On the way back I "only" got 60.4, bringing it up to 57.9. On the way in this morning I got 62.3, taking it to 58.1.
If I take this tank all the way through to tomorrow night I can:
A) Run the tank as close to its theoretical finish as is practical.
B) Get the same pump as my last two fills.
C) Get a personal best on distance and mpg.
D) Do a lot of walking if something's slightly off.
The UG says 58.1, the car says 56.6. Identical for all practical purposes, except for that niggly bit about walking- either alongside two little kids or while they're waiting for me to finish walking and pick them up. I ought to be at ~560 miles tomorrow night, so if I can maintain this average and the car is completely accurate then I should still have half a gallon in the tank when I get to the pump tomorrow night.
Should.
Except that when you're in record territory, hoping the numbers are right is risky even with a reserve... And the homeward leg is the uphill leg... And there are lots of hills even aside from the overall elevation change. I think what I'm gong to do is get my 1 gallon gas can out of the shed tonight and fill it with exactly one gallon tomorrow morning. If all goes well I won't have to touch that gas until I put it in my lawnmower on Saturday. Worst case, I'll be able to accurately measure my overall fill tomorrow night.
Wish me luck.
