Yup, on second thought it is not that impressive.
I get the feeling they metered out the fuel economy by assuming it takes most of its juice from the net and use the range extender for just a few % of the miles.
In that light, if a smoker buys a Tesla and uses a Zippo to light up, he might smoke for 100.000 miles on a single gallon.
But who cares about the overblown mpgs.
My office is in the same street as a BMW dealership, I see the i3s zip by at high speed. They seem like a lot of fun to drive.
If BMW can make a reasonably priced electric car that not only drives fast, but has the looks too - who knows what can happen.
