The key thing to driving a manual is to find "the spot" on the clutch. It's different on each vehicle. Slowly let the clutch out til you find the spot where the engine starts to engage a little. It will bog some too and if you don't have your foot on the brake the car will inch forward.

From there, you move your right foot from the brake to the gas then start giving it some.

Practice finding "the spot" a bunch when you first get the car. You can easily pull out from a hill once you do.

BTW, you don't know how to drive until you can drive a manual. Any other transmission will have the inherent losses of a torque converter (basically a fan pushing fluid to drive another fan).
