Can you go to
https://www.youtube.com/html5
and see if it shows it can play html5 and h264 mp4's?
You might need to download a new 'codec' for XP that supports this video format.
Sorry for the trouble, html5 really solved all the video problems of old browsers, and there were plenty, so I'm loath to solve them all myself.
