Most tire wear occurs in the cornering mode. If you have a long commute where you spend a lot of time driving straight ahead, then you can get tons and tons of miles before the tires wear out. Live in the city and not so much! The range can be as extreme as 10K to 100K for the same tire - mostly controlled by the turns made.
