When the EV-1 finally bowed publicly,AeroStealth and I drove from Radium Springs to Saturn of Tucson for a look and test drive.
Dr. Paul MacCready of Aerovironment had mentioned that the GM Sunraycer would be a 400-mpg car,and the EV-1 would be around 100-mpg.(The Cd 0.19 GM Ultralite was rated at 100-mpg).
Our thought was that Saturn could have used the Impact/EV-1 body and sold a 80-100 mpg gasoline stablemate along with leasing the EV.
Without the battery pack, the gasoline car could have been a 4-seat,2-door coupe,or a 4-dr sedan as Chrysler did with their little car which had the PT Cruiser variant.
Shame.EV-1 was constructed just like Saturn cars.It could have rolled down a real assembly line.
