I am going to guess you are using the wheels from a motor scooter rather than a car - and this makes a MAJOR difference.

17" car tires are completely different than 17" scooter/motorcycle tires. They operate on different principles, not to mention they come in completely different sizing.

So assuming that is true, then you'll want to be sure you have enough tire to carry the load. While it may appear that double the number of tires from a scooter to a 4 wheeler would be adequate, remember you are adding structure, so the weight will be more - and you will need a larger tire.

And for fuel economy, you'll want the largest tire you can find that fits the wheel (don't forget the the width of the wheel is important.)
