That is only true if you have some type of rollover (rollbar) and crash protection (sidebars) and are strapped in. Then you can safely stay with the vehicle in a crash.

With a motorcycle you want to be separated from it as quickly as possible to reduce the chances of ending up under it when it stops or having it strike you if it violently flips.
