I don't understand why a relay was needed instead of just a momentary switch.

I've got a 4 wire switch that I haven't installed yet on the Acura that simply disconnects the 4-wire harness that goes from the alternator to the ECU. This was the only way I could get the Acura to die without a MIL or killing the instrument cluster. It still runs with the crankshaft position sensor disconnected and throws a MIL.
