People have the unrealistic requirement of EVs having all of the benefits of conventional cars with no additional drawbacks, when in reality it's a different tool for a different job.

I am very curious what the future of companies pushing EVs as a package solution (*cough*Tesla*cough*) will be, because I agree with you. And, I think that as long as fossil fuels are cheap and widely available--which they will be as long as our food and goods distribution system relies on long-haul trucking, and as long as reserves hold out--people will continue to use them to power personal vehicles.
