Actually, the opposite of that is true.
There is a 3 way technology triangle involving treadwear, traction, and rolling resistance. Improvements in one area come at the expensive of one or both of the others. So tires that wear longer have poorer fuel economy.
And to make matters a little more complicated, an LRR tire only slightly changes that 3 way relationship - in that you can get a bit better RR with an LRR tire - BUT - the basic 3 way relationship is still in effect.
A LRR tire with a long life tread compound will have worse fuel economy than a non-LRR tire with a low treadwear rating.
