I had the same trouble with getting the bolts through that hold down the plate inside the motor. I drilled the hole through to the outside of the motor, and put the bolt through the plate so the bolt popped out through the new hole, and added a nut to the end (on the outside of the motor). Ghetto, but it worked really well.
