If you have a diesel full mechanical injection you don't need a wind mill or solar panels for most driving. Just put in a large deep cycle marine battery.
If you want to still use your vehicle for long drives, keep the alternator in place and just remove the belt and its power source for short drives. Then reinstall the belt and reconnect its power source for long drives.
