Magnets will lose their effect over time due to the field weakening over time due to extreme heat exposure depending on where you install them.
On the flip side, I use magnets on my transmission pan, engine oil pan and engine oil filter to trap magnetic particles. Rare earth magnets from dead hard drives of old computers work great!
