I have done it in the past, and had seen mild MPG improvements. Supposedly it helps to clean valves and combustion cameras from built up. But that was on carb'ed motorcycle.
I think it may destroy catalytic converter and is not compatible with rubber fuel lines, so it may be not much harm to use it in small quantities as a cleaner, but long term would not recommend, YMMV
