2015, quadcopters. 2016, hybrid-geckos

University ETH Zurich and Disney Research Zurich, (yeah the Ears, an academic application-driven lab and research arm inspired by another company asset, Pixar) collaborated on a hybrid of sorts, a robot drone, VertiGo, that can transition from the ground and continue to climb & travel across vertical surfaces! A robot that could travel in tight urban settings and even indoors. The ultra-lightweight design prototype has two electric adjustable-angle props that provides the thrust to zip across the ground and then generate 'downforce' to let it 'stick' on vertical walls. Did not see it but maybe with enough thrust it might even 'travel' on the ceiling?!

The real drone master/Empire has...the ears!
