In a gasser, since it requires electricity for the ignition, I'd rather still have some on-board electricity source, but it could eventually have a smaller capacity just to keep the engine still running after the battery gets fully drained. However, in a mechanically-governed Diesel, I wouldn't be so worried about an alternator delete.
