I build a plywood crate to fit in the back to help contain it and any mess. I now have a trailer and a hitch.
If you could swap the cr-z's final drive and 6th gear instead of our 5th, it would lower the 60 mph rpm from 2800 to about 2500. That's not enough to be worth the hassle, especially not knowing if it'll actually fit. If it would drop it to 2000 rpm I'd be interested.
