Scangauge is working just fine...I still haven't figured out how to call up lots of the info. "ports", but I'm not interested in "coolant temp." or trip parameters. I'm just using instantaneous MPG, average MPG, and % throttle opening.
Years ago, I installed a SpaceKom" MPG computer...which worked very well ( I didn't agree with their calibration techniques...but what do I know?). This analog meter was a clever infra-red fuel flow sensor, a speed sensor ( spliced into the speedo cable) and a computation circuit in the milliammeter read-out. For some unknown reason , the co. was sold to another...which then went bankrupt. But the unit was great! It showed the effects of hills ( up & down) on the "instantaneous" MPG ( displayed every 1/5 sec.) ... and there was no averaging capability.
Why bring this up? The SpaceKom taught me the many variables to the MPG resulting number. Thus, I could really "get a feel" for this OBD-II port-driven digital unit. It seems to respond in the same manner as the analog; ie. the response to the real world conditions seem the same... the deltas appear to be the same.
Now that this creature is stabilized, I can begin applying my hydrogen-oxygen generator design. The Internet is loaded with these "HHO" / "HOH" / oxyhydrogen / Brown's Gas creatures...but the efficiency of conversion(s) are dismal. I can do better. Stay tuned....

P.S. My modified gasoline - in my test mule - is producing an average MPG read-out (on the Scangauge) of 42-44 MPG ... on a daily basis. The Scangauge apparently won't hold the daily average value through its long "sleep" cycle. OK by me....

The EPA published figures for the make / model / year of my "test mule" is (was...) 28-30 highway.
This was in 2002... the EPA has done a bit of adjusting since then ( but not this much!).
