What it means in real numbers? Well, last fill up I used 20.6gal to go 313mi, about 15.2mpg. If I had got an extra 1.5mpg out of the tank I would have only used 18.7gal of gas and saved $5.02 at $2.64/gal...

Simple math.

Now... Back to the discussion of winter!
