For decades I've used a 20' length of 1" schedule-40 PVC pipe as kind of a bendable french curve.
I'll sand-bag in on the roof and pull it down to a few reference points clamped onto the vehicle,letting the pipe establish a continuous contour.
If you take measurements each 12",you can establish your bulkhead stations.
You can do the same with plan-taper by 3M blue-taping the pipe to the vehicle.
Not perfection,but as Steve Howard says,"close enough for jazz."
