This BMW Vision Next 100 Concept has flexible exterior fenders like the Ford Probe but with triangular scales embedded in the surface. The interior beyond gimmicky, but this I like. I'm not sure why the end of the axle moves sideways.
I think the scales prevent the surface from compressing.
I am glad they are thinking along these lines, but this solution seems really fussy.
