I'm not saying they don't have their problems. You picked two of the more common ones. The 56 sunroof had rusty rockers, the solution was to never run the heater. A cup of hot water in the winter to defrost the windshield, or a 6mil polyethylene 'cold cap' I stored on the porch. Others had a heater that was on in the winter and off in the summer.
Right now the Superbeetle is in the shop with the motor out, I'm making sure they replace the [torn] rubber grommet where the fuel line passes through the sheet metal. If it falls out the sheet metal turns into a saw that cuts through the fuel line.
I also once had a girl friend that was high maintenance.
