Some thoughts:

I have recently been driving around in my 3500 dually. Why? Because if someone hits me I have more, roughly twice, the mass to dissipate their inertia (their mass times their velocity squared) than I do in my old Camry. Now, If I were to run into a tree or a cement barrier (crash test), then I would rather be in my Camry. Because in the crash test, the cement barrier doesn't dissipate much, if any, of the incoming inertia. And the Camry is designed to be safer in that type of accident.

Further, If an auto runs into my 3500, they are likely to pancake under my rear torqlift trailer hitch or my front hitch. So I may not be as safe in a safety test, but I am likely safer in a real accident that I didn't cause.
