Just to stir the pot. Current gas engines, say Toyota, will last in excess of 300k miles.
My wife's 99 Avalon has 330k miles on it and still doesn't use enough oil between changes to require any additions. So, say it goes to 400k. (Here comes the pot stirring.) Will the amount a diesel would cost for oil and filters and more expensive batteries and fuel over what the Avalon has cost pay for a replacement used engine? I'm guessing yes.
