E85 is way cheaper way to get Alcohol, denatured with gasoline.

Didn't give the Stratus good dosses of E85 till after 150,000 miles, now at 245,000 never a fuel related issue

Altima didn't buy till 150,000, I've put 2/3 of a tank of E85 in it several times with no issues.

I put half a tank+ into my cobalt every other fill or so. Lose a few mpg but essentially same cost per mile. All my non-ffv cars take it just fine, get a CEL after 50% but all start and run the same.

I don't know what it does to emissions as we don't have testing here.

Alcohol chemically likes water better than gasoline so will bind with it and separate from the gasoline, but it will pass threw the engine just fine. It will essentially remove the water from the system, that is why we used to add Heat with every fill before E10 came out.

In Brazil they leave 4% water in the alcohol they use for fuel. They've been doing it along time so it must not be a problem. E25 is their minimum alcohol level all the way up to E100 or really E96 with 4% water.
