Wouldn't it be great if roads were so smooth and lacking in dips and valleys that the truck/trailer relationship could tolerate that setup? Otherwise some extreme creativity is needed either in suspension compensation or moving body panels. Or maybe the trailer nose can tuck into/under the truck fairings, again provided movement is limited or the gaps are generous enough or the fairing can "give"... or what?

I say fix the truck to the trailer, eliminate that gap altogether, and make both the front axles steer.
