This is a good diagram and brief description of your alternator wiring system. The little green wire controls the show. It runs through the battery light on the dash. It has b+ in run only, key on engine off the light is on grounded through the alt that is not spinning. When running and system good the light is off, b+ on both sides of the bulb. If the alt overcharges oo quits charging the light should come on due the different voltage on either side of the bulb.
