I have a full size bronco that has a 3 speed auto. It "likes" 45 mph to shift back to Drive. Anything more or less and a get a small clunk. Seems to me you could try a pulse and glide 45-60 mph and still be ok. That should keep your average speed roughly 52 to 53 mph.
