I don't remember the username off the top of my head, but there's a tribologist who posts all over bobistheoilguy, and I recall him saying that synthetic oils don't really break down, so you theoretically don't need to change the oil, just refresh the additive package and replace the filter once in a while. It is important that you actually do that since the corrosion inhibitors do run out over time from exposure to water vapor.
