New member with 1993 Civic VX- Boston/Buffalo area.
Last week, I was so excited to pick up a 1995 Civic VX with 175K miles on August 2nd. On the day before pick-up, I was browsing craigslist for fun and saw an ad that caught my eye.
1993 Civic VX- $1200
84,400 miles.
I couldn't believe my eyes, so I called and it went straight to a MIT professor voicemail. I was thinking, a student probably hates him and did the prank. So I left a few messages for the heck of it and even emailed his MIT email. That night, I hardly slept because I was hoping that the car was legit. So I googled the number and whitepages.com the name for the address. At around 2AM, I still couldn't sleep and I did the impossible. I pop opened Google Earth and look up the address, hoping that they have a snap shot of the driveway, etc. First snap-shot there was no red hatchback. So I move down the street a bit to the next photo. Lo-and-behold, a red VX was in the driveway! I was freaking excited and couldn't wait. So the next morning after dropping the lady off for work, I drove straight to the seller.
Got there around 7:30AM, with my laptop on hand and using the neighbors Wifi. Was planning to leave at 8AM, until an email popped up. It was from the seller and he said I can come to check out the car if I like, but it'll have to be around 11AM. So, I just went to a local Starbuck/supermarket and sat there until 10:30. Got to the house around 10:50 and saw him walking around, probably was waiting for me. Did the usual greeting and hopped into the car for a test drive. Everything works flawless, minus the dust that have been build up on the dash since 1993. Have a few dents and small rust, much better than the car I was supposedly pick up that day. I didn't even get to haggle the price down, when he said that there were 24 messages left and he didn't even get to listen to them yet. So I told him that I really wanted it and left a $100 deposit in cash. He didn't care much, since he was willing to take $5 for deposit. But I insisted, to show that I am serious. The thing about the car was that he was waiting for the duplicate title to arrive, and wouldn't allow me to take the car until it arrives. I am able to come and test drive it as much but I can not take it home.
So I went on vacation for a few days and came home checking my email every day. Until this afternoon, that he told me the title has arrived. He emailed me the title number, since I told him I need it for Progressive Insurance to send me the RMV-1 form. Went there and paid the rest in cash and swap plates. Drove the car home in the pouring rain with the ac blasting. Gosh I missed the AC. But now, I have a car that I know is very reliable and that will gets me great gas mileage.
Previous owned cars-
Honda CRX
Subaru STi
3x Subaru 2.5RS
Mercedes ML430
Audi A4
a few Integras
Now, I need to do some minor maintenance and buy another front bumper spoiler for the car. Afterward, fix the rust and pull the dents out.
Patience is the answer....
