Turbodiesel engines already use heat recovery and it increases their fuel economy by 10% or more.
Solar panels on a bed cover could fit three panels that are between 100 and 120 watts each. But they don't work at night. Then laying flat they typically only produce 40 to 50% of their rated power and only between 10 am through 4 to 5 pm.
