I want to put a 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva drivetrain into a 1987 or 1988 Cadillac Cimarron. The SOHC 4 cylinder with 4 speed auto could easily do 40 MPG in the Olds.

Would be interesting to see what it could do in the smaller and lighter Cimarron. 2536 and 2889 pounds. whatiscurbweight.com

Why an 87 or 88? Those are the years when it got flush headlamps to slick up the front for better aero and to sort of blend in with the rest of the GM lineup. Aside from that minor facelift, the Cimarron carried on with the 1981 J-Body while the rest of the J cars got the new design.

What gets me is why in 1995 GM discontinued the single cam version of that engine? Was their CAFE *too high*?

For 95 up the Quad Four got demoted from special option to being the base engine and called rather boringly "Twin Cam".
